After CCL Ranchi, BCCL Dhanbad to set up boarding sports academy for girls

Dhanbad  Jan 17: Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a major subsidy company of Coal India Limited (CIL) will set up a boarding sports academy for all round development of budding  girl talent from next financial year.

A Senior official of BCCL while rolling out the ambitious  mega sports project told media persons that besides honing sports talent of girls, the academy would also provide education opportunities in best educational institutions of the district. In this regard BCCL management has lined up with top three posh schools  Delhi Public School (DPS), Central School and DAV Public School Koyla Nagar.

If the project goes on as per plan,  BCCL would be the second coal company in Jharkhand to  set up a sports academy for grooming  budding talent of the state. Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) Ranchi in collaboration with the state government is successfully running a boarding coaching centre there.

BCCL officials said in the first phase 20 girls between age groups of 12 to 13 years would be selected for the academy.  BCCL management would arrange their sports  activities, training ,education and boarding for five years.  The company would spend  Rs.4.60 crores in the first phase of the academy.

Director personnel (DP) PVRKM Rao of BCCL said that a workout has been completed for a sports academy first of its kind in  Dhanbad. “ If all goes as per plan, the academy will begin functioning from 20220-23 years with  20 selected  girls in the first phase”, he said to media persons.

For the academy BCCL management has  spotted Jagjivan Nagar for construction of a hostel and sports ground for providing  coaching to selected players. All three selected schools are also close to the hostel site of Jagjivan Nagar.

A senior official of BCCL, who is associated with the mega sports project, said that  proposal would be put up before final approval of  BCCL Board of Directors. Daughters of displaced families of Jharia fire zone area would be given priority in selection for sports academies.
