Ranchi, Jan.22: As many as 21 motorbikes of different companies stolen from different places were recovered from various police stations of Gumla and Lohardaga today as police swung into action on getting a tip-off from their sources.

Eight persons in the age group of 19 to 21 were arrested in this connection. The list includes  Anand Oraon, Neeraj Oraon, Bablu Oraon, Nitesh Oraon, Chotu Bakhla, Shubhan Oraon, Vikas Tana Bhagat and Karthik Oraon. All are Lohardaga residents.

Sharing the breakthrough, sub divisional police officer, B.N.Singh, told media that the gang used to lift bikes for sale after changing their number plate and some of the bikes recovered do not have a number plate.

A police official said stolen bikes are mostly in big demand among criminals and extremists who are operative across the state. This helps them in protection against identification in case of seizure of the vehicles left in order to escape after committing crime.

Apart from this, the police official said, those who keep their movement restricted to their villages prefer having second hand bikes and bike lifters sell stolen bikes taking advantage of their ignorance.
