Dhanbad, Jan 29: BJP Dhanbad sadar MLA Raj Sinha terminated his three-days dharna on the second day on Friday evening after DVC management assured state government to stop power cuts in Dhanbad and six other districts of the state.

Two senior officers of the Dhanbad district administration, SDM Prem Kumar Tiwari and sadar circle officer (CO) Prasant Kumar Layak, met MLA Raj Sinha at the dharna spot on Friday evening and informed him about the successful meeting of the state government and DVC in Ranchi over the issue of supply of power.

District administration officials requested the MLA that since DVC has agreed to stop the power cuts from Saturday (today), he (Raj Sinha) should call off his 72-hours dharna against the power crisis in the region. The SDM and  CO also assured that district ration would also fulfill other demands like drinking water supply in the city in three months.

BJP Dhanbad sadar MLA Raj Sinha had sat on a 72-hours dharna at Randhir Verma Chowk near collectorate on January 27 in protest against power cuts by DVC and short supply of drinking water in Dhanbad district by the Jharkhand government.

Seven districts of  North Chhotanagpur Division- Dhanbad, Giridih, Bokaro, Koderma, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh and Chatra fall in the command area of DVC. As per agreement with Jharkhand government, DVC  has to supply 600 MW power daily in these districts but for the last one month it had been reducing the supply quota due to the pending bill payment.

“Since the concerned officers of state government and district administration failed to sort out the power and drinking water problems of people despite repeated requests, I had to sit on dharna. Now that the DVC has assured us to continue power supply, I have terminated my agitation in 31 hours,” said MLA Raj Sinha.

However, the MLA warned to sit on dharna again if his demands are not fulfilled in three months.

The Federation of Chamber of Commerce of the aforementioned seven districts that had announced to launch an agitation from January 30  against power crisis, also called off the stir after government-DVC management’s talk at Ranchi on Friday.
