Dhanbad Feb 3: National Medical Commission (NMC) has once again reduced two months from the duration of first professional course for new MBBS batch in 2021 to streamline academic session that was delayed due to Corona pandemic.

The course of 1st MBBS professional course is scheduled for 13 months. But in this session, the NMC has reduced it to 11 months. In the 2020 session too, it had curtailed two months in first and second MBBS professional course.

NMC secretary Dr Sandhya Bhullar in a letter to medical colleges across the country has said that the academic session of 2021 will start from February 14, 2022.

As the start of MBBS course has been delayed, owing to Corona pandemic in 2021 session, it has been decided to start the session from February 14.

“Besides it, a dedicated one-month long foundation course has been included in  the1st professional course which is now eleven months long. The foundation course would be covered during usual teaching hours or weekends/ holidays,” said NMC secretary Dr Sandhya Bhullar in her letter to medical colleges.

Ethics, computer science, Yoga and others courses are taught to new MBBS batch in foundation course.
The NMC secretary said that first professional course has been reduced to 11 months instead of 13 months. Besides it vacations of first, second and third professional courses have been curtailed by one month.

As per the letter of NMC secretary, the final professional examination of 2021 session would be held in June 2026.

“Even though the course duration has been shortened, care has been taken not to curtail practical and clinical posting. Internship will remain for one year,” said Dr Bhullar.

As per NMC circular in 2021, academic session of MBBS course would be completed in 53 months. The NMC has also reduced one week each in summer and winter vacation to streamline the session.
