Mumbai, Feb 6: Legendary singer and one of India’s biggest cultural icons, Lata Mangeshkar passed away on Sunday at the age of 92.
Following the news of her passing, the Indian cricket fraternity expressed its sadness and grief through social media. On his official Twitter profile, former India captain Virat Kohli offered his condolences to the family of Mangeshkar.
“Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Lata ji. Her melodious songs touched millions of people around the world. Thank you for all the music and the memories. My deepest condolences to the family & the loved ones,” wrote Kohli.

The members of the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team also wore black armbands in the first ODI against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, to pay respect to Mangeshkar.
Earlier in the day, the BCCI, in another tweet, wrote: “The BCCI joins the nation in mourning the loss of Bharat Ratna Smt Lata Mangeshkar ji. The queen of melody enthralled the country for decades. An avid follower of the game and an ardent supporter of Team India, she helped create an awareness using music as a medium #RIPLataji.”

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar also condoled Mangeshkar’s demise, saying she will continue to live through her music. He was also present at the Breach Candy Hospital, where the singer was admitted for the past 28 days.
“I consider myself fortunate to have been a part of Lata Didi’s life. She always showered me with her love and blessings. With her passing away, a part of me feels lost too. She’ll always continue to live in our hearts through her music,” he tweeted.
Former India cricketer VVS Laxman also paid his tribute to the late singer. “Pained to receive news of Bharat Ratna #LataMangeshkar didi’s demise. Her voice and melodies will remain immortal. Condolences to her family, friends and millions of fans all over the world,” wrote Laxman.
Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin wrote, “Her voice will remain with us forever. #RIPLataji.”
Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh also took to his official Twitter profile to pay his tribute to the legendary singer. “Feel saddened to hear about the death of Lata ji. Your voice shall remain immortal in our hearts,” wrote Harbhajan.

Former India bowler Venkatesh Prasad said that Mangeshkar will “live on in the hearts” of generations to come.
“There will never be another Lata Didi. End of an era as a Nightingale and jewel of India, Bharat Ratna #LataMangeshkar ji leaves her mortal body, but she will live on in the hearts of generations to come through her soul stirring music. May her soul attain Sadgati. Om Shanti,” wrote Prasad.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja on Sunday condoled the demise of singer Lata Mangeshkar, saying she was the “epitome of grace.” “Lata Mangeshkar was the epitome of grace, humility, and simplicity, and therefore greatness.. a lesson for all. Kishore Kumar and now her death has left me music broken,” tweeted Raja.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam paid tribute to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, following her demise on Sunday. “End of a golden era. Her magical voice and legacy will continue to live in the hearts of millions worldwide. An unparalleled icon! RIP Smt. Lata Mangeshkar Ji,” wrote Babar.
