Bengaluru, Feb 8: In the middle of the hijab debate, Karnataka Chief Minister Bommai has ordered the closure of all high schools and colleges for the next three days.

The chief minister also appealed all students, teachers and management of schools and colleges as well as people of Karnataka to maintain peace and harmony.

At the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College (MGM) in Udupi district, students wearing saffron scarves yelled chants against Muslim girls wearing the hijab on Tuesday. Students wearing saffron scarves clashed with Muslim students shouting “Jai Shri Ram.” The school administration intervened to keep the two groups of children apart.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court has begun hearings on the state’s hijab dispute, despite a protest outside a college campus between students wearing hijab and saffron shawls.
