Dhanbad, Feb 23: In a bid to pin down cybercrime in the district, Deoghar police have recommended 14 cyber cases to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for a probe.

Deoghar cyber police station Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sumit Prasad told media persons that the district police have prepared a list of 25 mastermind cybercriminals. Among them, cases of 14 have been recommended to the state police headquarters for the ED investigation.

The DSP admitted that cybercrimes have increased in the district but also said that police action has begun paying dividends now.

“In last one year (from January 2021 to January 2022), police have registered 128 cases of cheating and arrested 810 accused in this connection,” he said.

DSP Sumit Prasad sharing the information said that police have seized over Rs 12.16 lakh, 1,376 mobile phones, 2,173 SIM cards,  506 ATM cards, 375 passbooks, 92 checkbooks, 20 laptops, 30 bikes, 12 cars and many other things from the cybercriminals during this period (January 20 21 to January 2022).

According to the DSP, cybercrime has emerged as a big challenge for Deoghar police, since officers from many other states have come in search of cybercriminals in the area.

As a result of seeing how easy money can be made in this crime, young people are encouraged to join in. “We arrest the criminals, but when they get out of jail, they get back into crime,” he stated.

According to Sumit Prasad, a proposal to establish a technical lab in Deoghar is being considered to expedite the investigation of cybercrime cases.
