Ramgarh, Feb 24: Three children including one boy and two girls died after drowning in a small pit filled with water in the Urlung village of Barkakana in Ramgarh district.

The children have been identified as Shaili Lakra (9), Sujal Oraon (6) and Kriti Kumari (8).

They went to play outside on Wednesday evening. When the children did not return after a long time, the relatives started searching for them.

During this, children’s slippers and clothes were found outside a deep pit near the railway line.  Later, the bodies of the three children were recovered from the pit.

Barkakana OP police reached the spot and took cognizance of the incident.

The village has been in a state of shock and sadness since the tragedy. The deceased’s family members are in critical condition. Kriti Kumari’s body has been carried to her ancestral home in Piparwar.

Meanwhile, the villagers claimed that the accident was caused by the railway’s incompetence.

The pit was dug for the trains to remove the soil and was not closed back up. As a result, the pit was filled with rainwater.

The pit is approximately five to six feet deep. It is close to Urlung station and the railway line.

Barkakana OP in-charge Mantu Chaudhary stated that it could not be confirmed if the railways dug the pit or not. An investigation is now underway.
