Ranchi, Feb 25: The dental department of RIMS, which boasts of being equipped with super-specialty facilities, is facing the problem of electricity these days.
Patients undergoing treatment are being deprived of treatment due to power cuts. At the same time, they also have to go to the trauma center for registration.
During the Governing Council meeting of 2019, approval for the purchase of the generator was received. Despite this, three years have passed and the generator purchase has not been done.
The Dental Department has many state-of-the-art machines but electricity is the chief requirement for the operation of the machines which get hindered in the absence of a generator.
Dental department HOD Dr. NN Singh said that there is a problem with electricity in the dental institute and no separate generator arrangement is there in the building.
“The patients are facing problems due to frequent power cuts and the students studying in BDS face problems due to these power cuts as the projector turns off during class. Internet connectivity also gets blocked. There is no shortage on the part of the government, but the process of purchase has been delayed,” Dr. Singh said.
The department was established soon after the inception of the college & started functioning under Dr. DC Solanki as its first head. Previously it was located on the first floor of the OPD complex but now to expand the quality of oral health care, the department has been shifted to the new building located near the Superspeciality block.
On average 2-3 patients are reported with RTA who need open reduction and intra-osseous plating. They are operated by oral surgeons in tandem with the ENT & Orthopedic department.
Shortly, the department of Dentistry will be reformed into RIMS Dental Institute with all its 9 branches of specialties working namely –Oral Medicine & Radiology, Prosthodontics & Implantology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Conservative & Endodontics, Periodontics, Public Health Density, Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Forensic Odontology & Orthodontics.
The department provides BDS training to doctors who have completed their graduation. A Dental Hygienist course (paramedical course) is also being offered by the department in which every year 4 admissions take place. Clinical teaching is also provided to interns & 4th-year MBBS students.
The department has a well-ventilated waiting space, an outdoor hall & 6 working dental chairs with all dental facilities. It is also equipped with the facility for OPG & RVG X-Ray. The department performs all sorts of dental operations along with critical & intricate proceedings like intra-osseous plating & wiring.
