Ranchi, Feb 25: The District Administration in the past academic session helped five students from the Tamar district continue higher education through the ‘Shreshtha Yojana’, a scheme launched by the Central government last year.

District Education Officer Arvind Vijay Bilung regarding this said, “Five students were admitted to the residential school Mother International situated in Brambe in the academic session of 2021-22.”

The DEO continued stating, “As per rules, advertisements were taken out four times in the paper by the department for SC students that required monetary help for higher education in classes 9 and 11. A total of six students could be chosen for each class under the scheme but last year only five students had applied for the same.”

“We did not need to conduct any kind of exams for choosing them because the number of applicants was less than the total seats so they were directly admitted in schools based on their marks on their previous report cards,” Bilung added.

Notably, the Central government had last year announced a scheme ‘Shreshth Yojana’ for the students of the Scheduled castes. The scheme by the central government is set to help meritorious SC students by providing them quality education in reputed schools for their socio-economic uplift and overall development. Students will be provided education in residential schools in targeted areas to help prevent drop outs in classes nine and 11 students.

As per sources, NITI Aayog has recognized prestigious non-public residential facilities in aspirational districts to help implement the scheme. Meanwhile, the Government of India has estimated that Rs 300 crore would be required for the implementation of this scheme, which is expected to help more than 24,800 students in the next five years.
