Ranchi, Feb 25: With a two-year-long gap in education due to Covid 19, both government and private technical institutions are working to make up for the loss of time for students in all years. Notably, most of the technical courses need an extensive practical practice, which was hampered during the two-year Covid lockdown.
While talking of how universities plan to make it up, Prof Vijay Pandey, Vice Chancellor in-charge of Jharkhand University of Technology said, “We as educators understand the need for practical classes in polytechnic and other technical courses. Better institutions including BIT Sindri that I was with during Covid had a system and schedule along with online classes for practical. Students would be given POV videos with professors doing the experiments on a regular basis to maintain the level of practice.”
He further continued, “Even though this is not a very successful arrangement, still it helped students then. Students in all technical courses including diploma courses need a more hands on experience for which this was not sufficient.”
Explaining plans for JUT students, Prof Pandey said, “All principals have been advised to ensure practical classes even in extra time in schedules along with theory. Practical classes are needed for all first, second and third-year students here, for which the institution heads have been advised to organize extra classes on Saturdays and Sundays, keeping in mind students’ vantage.”
“During the offline classes during Unlock, we have advised maximum classes for practical as theory can also be taught online, whereas, practical is mastered with practice. We also plan to make summer vacation a one-week long holiday to conduct classes during that time,” Prof Pandey added.
