New Delhi, March 4: Shane Warne, the renowned Australian spinner, died after a suspected heart attack on Friday at the age of 52. Doctors tried to resuscitate the Australian cricketer at a home in Thailand but were unsuccessful.

“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived,” a statement read.

“The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course,” it further added.

Shane Warne just commented on social media on Friday morning, expressing his sympathies to the family of another iconic Australian cricketer, Rod Marsh, who died on Thursday.

“Sad to hear the news that Rod Marsh has passed. He was a legend of our great game & an inspiration to so many young boys & girls. Rod cared deeply about cricket & gave so much-especially to Australia & England players. Sending lots & lots of love to Ros & the family. RIP mate,” he had written on Twitter.
Shane Warne, one of the greatest cricketers of all time, took 708 wickets in 145 Test matches. Between 1992 and 2007, he had a 15-year career. He also won the World Cup with Australia in 1999.

Warne is regarded as one of the finest bowlers in the sport’s history, having been a key member of Australia’s successful sides in the 1990s and early 2000s.

As the captain of the Rajasthan Royals, Warne also won the Indian Premier League’s debut season. He is widely regarded as the greatest skipper Australia has ever produced.
