“I will miss this House. Punjab has given me huge responsibility. But I promise people of Sangrur that a bold voice will echo in the House soon. I thank people who trusted & voted for their son,” said Bhagwant Mann as he arrives to resign from membership of Parliament.
On March 16, the 48-year-old AAP leader will be sworn in as Punjab’s chief minister. The ceremony will take place in Nawanshahr district’s Khatkar Kalan, the famed independence fighter Bhagat Singh’s home hamlet.
In the 117-member Punjab assembly, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) romped home with 92 seats. It wiped out both the Congress and the SAD-BSP coalition.
Notably, Mann defeated Congress candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy by 58,206 votes to win the Dhuri assembly seat.
