Mumbai, March 15: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season will begin on March 26 in Mumbai. At the Wankhede Stadium, the defending champions Chennai Super Kings will face Kolkata Knight Riders.
The T20 competition will once again include ten teams, with the inclusion of the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. The DRS, COVID-19 allowances for clubs, and the newly-introduced MCC regulations will all be key rule changes in the IPL 2022.
“Unable to field a team on account of COVID for any match due to having less than 12 players available in the playing XI (of which at least 7 must be Indian) plus 1 substitute fielder,” said BCCI.
“The BCCI, at its discretion, will attempt to reschedule the match for later in the season. If this is not possible, the issue will be referred to the IPL Technical Committee. The decision of the IPL Technical Committee will be final and binding, it added.
The former rule stated that the board “would endeavour to reschedule the match for a later date in the season.” If this is not achievable, the franchise will be considered to have lost the match, and its opponent will receive two points.’
There will be a total of 74 games in the 2019 edition, with clubs separated into two groups. Teams in the same group will play each other twice, while the rest of the field will only play once.
The number of unsuccessful DRS reviews allowed per innings will be increased to two in the 2022 IPL season. Each team has only been permitted one review so far. A new batsman will have to take strike even if the player who was removed had crossed over before the catch was taken, according to new MCC cricket laws slated to be applied in international cricket from October 1, 2022.
Another significant change in terms of playing circumstances is that if a Super Over cannot be completed in a playoff game or final, the club that finished first in the league stage will be proclaimed the winner.
