Ranchi, March 23: The BJP demanded the Hemant Soren government to clear its stand on whether or not to allow the procession of the Ramanavami and the Sarhul festival. The BJP MLAs further created a ruckus during the budget session of the assembly on Wednesday.
The question was raised by BJP’s Hazaribagh MLA Manish Jaiswal who said that crores of people of Jharkhand celebrate both the festivals. But the government so far has not clarified its stand on whether procession will be allowed or not.
Replying to the question, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Rural Development, Alamgir Alam, said that the government respects the religious sentiments of people and a decision will be taken after assessing the law-and-order situation. The opposition on this created ruckus. BJP’s Bhavnathpur MLA Bhanu Pratap Shahi rose to his seat and accused the government of doing appeasement of a section of the society.
The minister objected to the accusation and said that the opposition was creating a perception without listening to him. Alam said that the tendency of not listening to the opposite side has entered the parliamentary system which was not a good sign at all. The Speaker snubbed Shahi and other BJP MLAs for disrupting the House.
“You (Shahi) have put this question before the House. You can’t behave this way,” the Speaker said. It started verbal brickbats between the treasury and the opposition. Sudivya Kumar of the JMM and Bandhu Tirkey (Independent) accused the BJP MLAs of undermining the authority of the Speaker. They objected to the BJP MLAs for speaking in the House without the permission of the Speaker and said that the minister should not be interrupted.
