New Delhi, March 25: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval told visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday that “early and total disengagement” in border areas is required for Indo-China ties to move forward.
Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for delegation-level talks on Friday at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Wang also paid a visit to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval at the South Block prior to the meeting.
NSA Doval was invited to visit China by the Chinese side during the talks. According to the sources, the NSA answered affirmatively, adding that he may travel when the urgent issues are resolved successfully.
Doval informed Wang Yi that they must maintain constructive diplomatic and military engagements in order to restore peace, which is a requirement for normalisation.
“Need to take early and complete disengagement in remaining areas to allow bilateral ties to take their natural course. Continuation of present situation not in mutual interest,” said NSA.
Notably, Wang Yi held delegation-level talks with NSA Doval on Friday, in which the two sides emphasised the need to continue positive interactions at diplomatic and military levels for restoration of peace, a prerequisite for normalisation of bilateral relations.
After the clashes between the two sides at the Galwan Valley in the summer of 2020, this is the first interaction at the topmost level.
