New Delhi, March 28: Bharat Biotech’s MD Krishna Murthy Ella and joint MD Suchitra Krishna Ella were among 74 eminent individuals who received the Padma awards on Monday. At a civil investiture ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Ram Nath Kovind honored them with Padma Bhushan award.
Notably,the Padma awards are one of the country’s highest civilian honours. Art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service are among the disciplines that receive honours. There are 128 Padma awards this year, with four Padma Vibhushans, 17 Padma Bhushans, and 107 Padma Shri awardees. Women account for 34 of the honorees, including 13 posthumous beneficiaries.
According to a government announcement, the ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is given for exceptional and distinguished service, the ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order, and the ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.
