Melbourne, March 30: Thousands of fans, past colleagues, friends, and family members attended Shane Warne’s state memorial at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Wednesday to pay respect to the renowned cricketer.
Notably, Shane Warne died of a suspected heart attack on March 4 while on a personal trip to Thailand. While his close friends and family were invited to a private funeral in Melbourne last week, the public was invited to the broadcast state funeral.
The Shane Warne Stand at the legendary MCG was officially opened during the funeral service, with politicians, cricketers, his family, Hollywood stars, and musicians sharing touching words recalling their moments with the legend.
Cricketers such as Allan Border, Nathan Lyon, Merv Hughes, David Boon, and former England captain Nasser Hussain, as well as former West Indies batter Brian Lara, attended Warne’s memorial service. Keith Warne, Shane’s father, and his children Summer and Jackson expressed touching tributes to the cricketer, who was known for putting his family first.
