Mumbai, April 2: With a great strokeplay against Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler lit up the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
He hit the first century of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He got off to a slow start, but sprang into life in the fourth over of the match, slamming Basil Thampi for 26 runs, and never looked back. Buttler reached the three-figure milestone in just 66 deliveries. Buttler’s century was his second in the IPL and third in all T20s.
In the third over, he lost his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, but in the next over, he went on a tear, hitting Thampi for a boundary, two sixes, and another boundary before finishing the over with a six.
Buttler put up an 82-run stand with captain Sanju Samson, who hit 30 off 21 before being wiped out by Kieron Pollard when Devdutt Padikkal dropped off the final delivery of the Powerplay.
Shimron Hetmyer joined the celebrations as Pollard’s next over yielded 26 runs. Before being caught in the deep off Jasprit Bumrah, Hetmyer left for 35 off 14 as well.
Buttler went on to score his century in the 19th over, but was bowled for 100 off 68 by Bumrah a few deliveries later. In his innings, he hit 11 boundaries and five sixes.
RR scored 193/8 versus MI, thanks to his amazing tonne.
