Dumka: A 15-member team of the special task force (STF) from Kolkata has unearthed a mini-gun factory in Sarua village under Mufassil police station by conducting a raid on a two-storied building today jointly with the local police.

Altogether six persons, including a woman have been arrested in the move which followed the arrest of one Rajendra Prasad alias Maqbul Hussain recently by the Kolkata police while possessing illegal arms allegedly manufactured in the same mini-gun factory.

Security forces are reported to have found many incriminating items and equipment that were being used to manufacture illegal firearms.

The revelation about the existence of a mini-gun factory situated just on the outskirts of the sub-capital town, however, has sparked sensation among the common residents who have started raising points against the local police for failing to apprehend the contraband activities taking place under its nose.

Sources said that one and half dozen unfinished firearms, including pistols and revolvers have been recovered from the said premises along with tools and other raw materials used in manufacturing the firearms.

Recently, a mini-gun factory was also unearthed in Pattabari under Shikaripara police station of the district in September last year when four persons were arrested along with the seizure of a lathe machine but no headway about cracking down the kingpins of illegal arms manufacturing and its supply network could have been made as yet.

Notably, the previous raid on the illegal arms manufacturing unit was also conducted on such instances by Patna police only.

“All the arrested persons belong to Munger (Bihar) which is infamous for the manufacturing of illegal firearms,” said a police officer preferring anonymity and added that police were in search of one Ravi Kumar, the owner of the two-storied building where the mini-gun factory was functioning.

Meanwhile, senior police officials, including Dumka SP Ambar Lakda are tight-lipped on the details about today’s raid at the Dumka -based mini gun factory by Kolkata police.
