PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, April 4: The East Singhbhum district administrations are beefing up security and taking precautionary measures to ensure a peaceful Ram Navami immersion procession this year.

The Ram Navami processions will be taken out on April 11. Due to the COVID -19 induced pandemic, no processions could be taken out in the last two years.

The police take extra measures as the festival has sparked communal tension on several occasions in the past.

The East Singhbhum district administration has decided to curb the use of inflammatory songs and posting of communally sensitive messages on social media during Ram Navami processions.

A directive has been issued in this regard to all the 170-odd licensed and around 30 unlicensed Ram Navami akhara committees.

CCTV cameras would be installed in as many as 25 sensitive locations in Jamshedpur.

Moreover, drones will be pressed to service for keeping a tab on processions.

RAF, QRT and Jharkhand Armed Police would be deployed in adequate numbers for preventing any incidents during the processions

“We want the Ram Navami festival to be peaceful and any attempt to incite communal disturbances will be sternly dealt with, ”  said city SP Subhas Chandra Jat.

He said that officers-in-charge of sensitive police stations like Mango, Golmuri, Parsudih, Telco, Jugsalai and Azadnagar have been given necessary directives for maintaining better law and order.

The district police will hold a meeting with members of the Central Peace Committee on April 7 to take stock of final preparations. The meeting will be attended by senior SP Tamil Vanan and other senior cops.
