Ranchi, April 5: The attempt of former minister Raja Peter, who is in judicial custody for his alleged involvement in the murder of former minister Ramesh Singh Munda, to come out from jail turned futile as the Jharkhand High Court today rejected his bail plea.

A division bench comprising Justices S Chandrashekhar and Ratnakar Bhengra, which has reserved its judgment in the bail petition, today delivered its judgment.

The case arose after Maoists gunned down Munda, who was invited as chief guest at a function at S.S.High School, Bundu, on July 9, 2008.

Maoists opened indiscriminate fire as Munda was felicitating and awarding the students at the function. At the same time, the Naxalites of Kundan Pahan Squad came to the school and started firing. Apart from Munda, his two bodyguards Shivnath Minz and Khurshid Alam were also killed in the firing. An innocent student Ramdhan Patar also fell prey to the bullet of Maoists.

A case was registered at the Bundu police station in this regard. Later, the NIA investigated the Ramesh Singh Munda murder case. After Kundan Pahan, a Maoist zonal commander who was a named accused in the case, surrendered, he during his interrogation named Peter as the mastermind of the murder.

The case was handed over to the NIA and the investigation agency arrested Peter, giving a new turn to the case.
