Dhanbad, April 13: “Eighty-five percent social and 15 percent technical skills are the key to the success in interviews as well as in corporate life,” said Dr. Rima Dey, ex-scientist of National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR NML) Jamshedpur while addressing the students at ‘Campus to Corporate’ programme organized by  NVCTI, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad.

Dr Dey, while addressing the first offline event of NVCTI after the post-Covid Covid era, shed light on various physical and mental aspects that the students should prepare beforehand for an interview.
Naresh Vashist Centre for  Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI) of IIT Indian School of Mines Dhanbad has launched an inter-school competition to provide a platform for budding innovators of the state to apply their minds to solving real-life problems through technological innovation.

She discussed the soft skills that contribute 85% to success in interviews and corporate life. “Visual, Vocal, and Verbal”, are the three aspects that help in making first impressions in interviews,” she said.

She also encouraged the students to find out the core values of the company in which they are aspiring to work in. At the same time, she also said that one’s own values are also important in order to make sure both personal and company values are aligned together.

She spoke about virtual interviews and how to tackle the situation when there is a technological barrier involved.

Earlier, the head of the NVCTI centre Prof. Pankaj Mishra, Associate Dean(Innovation) shed light on organizing the programme and stressed upon the importance of the session, especially as it was the first offline session where students met the guest speaker in person.
The auditorium was packed with eager students.“It was a very engaging and informative session that the students really enjoyed. There was a takeaway for everyone who attended the session,” observed the participants. In the session, students also asked some questions about how to combat the situation in interviews as well as in corporate life.
Prof Nirmalya Basu, the overall Coordinator of NVCTI, wrapped up the session with the promise of more such upcoming events by the NVCTI.
