New Delhi, April 13: The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked Uttarakhand government to file a status report into the speeches made in Haridwar Dharm Sansad allegedly inciting violence against minority communities.
The apex court also allowed petitioner-journalist Qurban Ali to intimate the concerned authority about a proposed Dharam Sansad event in Himachal Pradesh. The order was passed bench by a comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and Abhay S Oka.
In December, the Dharam Sansad was held in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, during which controversial statements were delivered. Qurban Ali, a journalist, and Anjana Prakash, a former Patna High Court judge and senior counsel, submitted a plea asking for a independent, credible, and unbiased probe by a SIT into incidences of hate speech directed towards the Muslim community.
