Mumbai, May 4: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena head Raj Thackeray said on Wednesday that playing Hanuman Chalisa outside mosques is not a one-day affair and will continue till the government handles the matter. The MNS chief stated that this is not a religious matter at all, but rather a societal issue that must be understood first, and that when repeated appeals fail, protest is the only option.
“We will continue playing Hanuman Chalisa outside mosques at the time of Azaan until all illegal loudspeakers will be removed. I have to see what Supreme Court is doing if govt is not following its order,” said MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
“My point is that all illegal loudspeakers should be removed from mosques, until they are removed we will continue our agitations,” MNS chief Raj Thackeray added.
Over 140 MNS workers have been detained by Mumbai police for doing what the administration was supposed to do, said the MNS leader, adding that he and his party are not opposed to legal loudspeakers. His protest, on the other hand, is also against unlawful loudspeakers in temples.
“My point is that all illegal loudspeakers should be removed from mosques. Until they are removed, we will continue our agitations. According to Supreme Court rules, the loudspeaker should not exceed 45-55 decibels which is the sound mixer-grinder in our kitchen makes,” Raj Thackeray further added.

Notably, Raj Thackeray had already given the state administration a deadline of May 3 before which he sought the removal of all illegal loudspeakers. The state’s security was beefed up on May 3, and numerous MNS workers, including Raj Thackeray, were given notice. Raj Thackeray claimed at a gathering in Aurangabad that he will not be accountable for what happens in the state after his deadline on May 3. He did, however, advise his supporters not to take to the streets on Eid. MNS workers performed Hanuman Chalisa in front of numerous mosques in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane during the morning azaan on May 4.
