Dhanbad, May 12: Four petrol pump robbers were arrested with looted cash of Rs 50,000 while escaping after committing the crime on Govindpur- Sahebganj road under East Tundi police station last night at around 9 pm.

The police officials said the robbers were fleeing toward Jamtara district by car after looting the petrol pump. The East Tundi police intercepted their vehicle at Badbal forest and arrested them.

East Tundi police station officer-in-charge Kuldeep Raj Toppo said that arrested robbers are being interrogated.

According to the information, the incident happened between 7.30 to 8 pm at Narayani Fuel Service Station near Binod Bihari Mahto College under Baliapur police station, around 20 km away from district headquarters.

Criminals came in a car from the side of Sindri to refill fuel. They engaged in an altercation with the staff and after sabotaging the office, they looted Rs 50,000 kept in a bag.

As the robbers fled, the staff informed the local police station. A high alert was sounded and police blocked all exit points of the district. Finally, the East Tundi Police nabbed them on Govindpur – Sahebganj road at 9 pm.

“We began checking near Badbal forest and at around 9 pm caught them while fleeing,” said the police officer.

Baliapur police station officer-in-charge Nisha Murmu said that on the complaint of petrol pump owner Mithu Saria, an FIR was lodged against them for robbing cash.

The arrest of petrol pump robbers has relieved the police administration as the Coalfield Petroleum Dealers Association (CPDA), the frontal organization of 173 fuel refilling centres (petrol pumps), had announced to suspend operation in the district from 10 pm to 5 am following increasing attacks and extortion demands.

CPDA secretary Sanjiv Rana had given a memorandum to the Senior Superintendent of Police after criminals fired at the Govindpur petrol pump on April 22.
