Thailand Open: Srikanth defeats Leverdez in first round

Bangkok, May 18: Kidambi Srikanth of India won his first match in the Thailand Open 2022 men’s singles draw against Brice Leverdez of France on Wednesday in Bangkok.

Srikanth defeated Leverdez 18-21, 21-10, 21-16 on Court 2 in a contest that lasted 49 minutes. Srikanth produced an incredible comeback after losing the first game, winning the next two games.

Shuttler Ashmita Chaliha, on the other hand, fell in the first round of the women’s singles against Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon. Ratchanok dominated the Indian shuttler 10-21, 15-21 in a 29-minute match on Court 1.

Chaliha had won the women’s singles qualification match against Jennie Gai of the United States 21-16, 21-18 in 27 minutes earlier on Tuesday.

PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Aakarshi Kashyap, HS Prannoy, and B Sai Praneeth, among the best Indian shuttlers, will compete later in the day.
