New Delhi, May 22: Sanjay Kumar Verma, India’s ambassador to Japan, expressed hope that the Quadrilateral Dialogue (Quad) conference on May 24 in Tokyo will strengthen strong strategic connections between the two countries while also attracting investments.
“Japan is very much excited about opportunities in India, especially PLI schemes, so they need to understand us better, we need to understand them better,” he said.
Regarding China, he stated that the primary goal of Quad summits is to achieve a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo Pacific.
In addition, the Indian ambassador to Japan stressed the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on energy and food security, calling it “one of the biggest global challenges of the moment.”
On the trade front, he cited a trilateral agreement between India, Japan, and Australia on a supply chain resilience effort.
Many of these supply lines, he explained, are concentrated in a single geography, and when that geography is disturbed, or when people in charge of that geography desire to disrupt it, the entire supply chain is affected. Workers will struggle to enjoy a stable lifestyle unless we have a reliable supply chain, he said.
Quad, according to the envoy, is a club of like-minded countries that share ideals such as international law, democracy, and the market economy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday, ahead of his scheduled travel to Japan, that during the Quad summit, leaders will once again have the opportunity to discuss numerous initiatives and topics of mutual concern.
Earlier, in March 2022, Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited India to take part in the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit.
