Dhanbad, May 24: Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad finally succumbed to the pressure of the teachers association protest and issued a revised notification by appointing the head of the faculty as chairman of the Departmental Research Council (DRC).

In the revised notification issued last evening, the university has made Dr Leelawati Kumari, the chemistry faculty head, the chairman of the Departmental Research Council for the department of chemistry and excluded the name of  Dr SK Sinha, dean, faculty of science.

Sources in the university said on the directive of vice-chancellor Dr Mukul Narayan Dev, registrar Vikash Kumar has amended the notification to avoid any further controversy.

University had on May 20 constituted four-member DRC for the chemistry department under Dr SK Sinha as coordinator. Two faculty members of the chemistry department Dr DK Singh and Dr RP Singh were picked in the Council but the head of the department Dr Leelawati Kumari was ignored.

BBMKU Teachers Association strongly protested the insult of  HoD Dr Kumari and threatened that the association would not tolerate such behaviour of the university administration.

Finally, on  Monday evening, registrar Vikash Kumar issued a revised notification for the DRC of the chemistry department in which a five-member Council has been constituted in place of the previous four members. Dr Leelawati Kumari has been made chairman while Dr DK Singh, Dr RP Singh, Dr KP Sinha (BS City College, Bokaro) and the supervisor of the concerned candidate have been made members.

Dr SK Sinha dean, faculty of science, who was a coordinator in the first notification, did not get a place in the revised council. Dr KP Sinha of Bokaro Steel City College chemistry department has been included in place of Dr Sinha.

BBMKU Teachers Association has strongly reacted to the revised notification of the university. The spokesperson of the teachers’ body Dr Jitendra Aryan said that the university administration’s notice rectification culture must stop.

“This not only tarnishes the image of the university but also tends to humiliate teachers’ fraternity. Association will not allow any person to run the university like private limited,” said Dr Aryan.
