New Delhi, Dec 22: Aaftab Poonawala, who is accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, withdrew his bail plea on Thursday due to a ‘miscommunication’ with his lawyer. A Delhi court said that the bail application was improperly submitted without Aaftab’s knowledge.
Aftab’s lawyer, Advocate MS Khan, informed the court that the defendant had chosen to withdraw the bail request after speaking with him for 50 minutes on Monday. He stated to the court that there was a communication error when the plea was filed.
According to the Delhi Police’s reply submitted in a Saket court, Aaftab Poonawala should not be allowed bail because the crime had a significant impact on society.
The defence lawyer had stated when submitting the bail application that there is no use in holding the accused in judicial custody as the first investigation in the case is complete and the charge sheet is yet to be produced.
Aaftab Poonawala’s judicial custody was extended by 14 days by the Saket court on December 9. He was charged with killing his partner Shraddha Walker on May 18 and is presently being held in Tihar prison.
