Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially released its first list of 20 candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, marking a significant step forward in its campaign. The announcement comes amid ongoing uncertainty about an alliance with Congress, as no headway has been made in seat-sharing talks between the two parties.

Speaking to the media on Monday, AAP Haryana President Sushil Gupta emphasized the party’s goal of uprooting what he described as the “corrupt and arrogant” Haryana government. “AAP has already released the list of 20 candidates, and soon the next list will follow,” Gupta stated.

Alliance with Congress Stalls

While addressing the potential alliance with Congress, Gupta clarified that AAP had made consistent efforts to form an alliance. However, with time running out before the polls, the party decided to move forward on its own. “There is less time left for the polls, so we released our list of candidates,” he explained.

Despite the stalled negotiations, Gupta confirmed that AAP remains a part of the national opposition bloc, INDIA, which aims to challenge the ruling party at the national level. “We are still a partner of the INDIA alliance at the national level,” he reiterated.

Strong Alternative in Haryana

Gupta did not elaborate on the factors that hindered the alliance talks but asserted that AAP has built a strong organization in Haryana and is ready to contest the elections independently. “We waited patiently, but the organization wanted us to contest. We are a strong alternative in Haryana, and we believe the results will reflect that,” he added.

Among the candidates announced, AAP Haryana state vice president Anurag Dhandha will contest from the Kalayat constituency, while Gurpal Singh will run from Naraingarh.

Haryana Election Timeline

The deadline for nominations for the Haryana assembly elections is September 12. Polling is scheduled to take place on October 5, with votes being counted on October 8. AAP’s move to release its candidate list has added to the political momentum in the state as it gears up for a crucial election.
