Jamshedpur, Sept 18: Acting on a complaint lodged by a resident of Bagbera, a team of ACB officials arrested an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of police from Bagbera Thana on Monday.

Identified as Shashi Bhushan Rai, the ASI was nabbed by the ACB sleuths soon after he had received Rs 15,000 as a bribe from a resident of Bagbera for extending favour in a land-related matter.

According to sources, the complainant has a plot of land in the Ghaghidhih locality under the Bagbera Thana area where he wanted to put up a boundary wall. To get the work of the boundary wall done, he required a nod from the local police station.  The ASI had asked the complainant to pay Rs 15,000 as a bribe for the boundary wall construction purpose.

But as the man was not interested in paying the bribe, he had instead approached the ACB by going over to its divisional office at Sonari.

The ACB authority had carried out a preliminary enquiry and having found the complaint prima facie true, they had asked the complainant to go ahead to the Bagbera thana with the bribe money as asked by the ASI. In the morning, the complainant paid the ASI Rs 15,000 on the Thana premises and as soon as he handed over the cash, the ACB sleuths who were around, swooped over the ACB and recovered the amount from his possession. The next moment, the team arrested the ASI.

The ACB team took away the arrested ASI to its divisional office at Sonari for interrogation and the necessary paperwork.

According to sources, the ASI Shashi Bhushan Rai is scheduled to retire from his service in two months only.
