Telangana, Feb 17: Actor Nagarjuna on Thursday adopted 1,080 acres of forest land to establish an urban park in memory of his father, late actor and Dada Saheb Phalke awardee Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, and gave Rs. 2 crore to the ‘Haritha Nidhi,’ an initiative conceived by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.
Nagarjuna, along with TRS MP Joginiapalli Santosh Kumar and his family members, including actor-sons Naga Chaitanya and Nikhil, attended the foundation laying ceremony on February 17 to commemorate the Chief Minister’s birthday celebrations.

Nagarjuna said that the Green India Challenge campaign that is to create green cover in the State and country encouraged him. He stated that he discussed the adoption of forestland with the MPduring the finale of Big Boss, which he hosts, and declared on the dais that he would adopt forestland.
Meanwhile, TRS MP declared that one lakh trees will be planted on the vacant area in addition to the establishment of an urban park in memory of late Nageswara Rao. As part of the Green India Challenge, he declared 1.5 lakh acres of forest land around Hyderabad would be safeguarded, preserved, and developed. Businessmen, entrepreneurs, and organisations that wish to be a part of this social obligation, according to the MP, can do so.
Special Chief Secretary (Forests) Shanta Kumari, PCCF R. Shobha, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat, Hyderabad Chief Conservator MJ Akbar, Medchal Forest Officer Venkateswarlu and GIC Co. Founder Raghava were among those present.
