Jamshedpur, Oct 22: A family dispute over money led a couple to commit suicide at their house in Adityapur on Saturday afternoon.
Those who committed suicide were identified as Mukesh Agarwal (38) and Veena Agarwal (35), both residents of the MIG colony at Dindli Basti in Adityapur.
Police recovered both bodies and sent them to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem.
Adityapur thana OC Rajan Kumar confirmed the suicidal death of Mukesh Agarwal and his wife Veena Agarwal due to a family dispute in the family.
“Mukesh Agarwal who worked as a delivery boy in the online food delivery company Zomato had four brothers. Though the deceased had bought the residential flat at the MIG colony by using his mother’s money two years ago, he had planned to sell out the flat. Concerned with the decision of Mukesh, his mother had on Friday approached the Adityapur thana as she was apprehensive about getting homeless along with her ailing husband. Moreover, the remaining four sons of the elderly lady were not agreed to keep the elderly couple. As the dispute extended to Saturday also and the mother came to the police station again this afternoon, Mukesh and his wife shut themselves in a room at the flat and committed suicide by hanging,” narrated Kumar while talking to lagatar24.com.
The OC said Mukesh’s parents who do not have any earnings had recently approached Seraikela court also, leading the court to instruct all the five sons of the elderly Agarwal couple to pay Rs 1,000 each per month to them.
The police officer said the investigation is still on, adding that they are trying to find out the exact reason behind the twin suicide.
