Ranchi: With new judge appointments expected this year at the Jharkhand High Court, the High Court Advocate Association has written to the Chief Justice requesting the inclusion of High Court advocates’ names in the recommendations for judicial appointments.
High Court Judge Appointments Underway
The Jharkhand High Court has a sanctioned strength of 25 judges. However, following the retirement of Justices Ratnaker Bhengra and Subhash Chand last year, the number of sitting judges dropped to 18. This year, Justice Dr. S. N. Pathak is set to retire, further reducing the count to 17.
The reduction in judges is anticipated to impact the hearing and resolution of pending cases significantly. Therefore, the process of appointing new judges is expected to commence soon to address this shortfall.
The Advocate Association has emphasized that appointing deserving lawyers as judges could not only strengthen the judiciary but also bring diverse legal expertise to the bench.
