Kabul, April 19: Three explosions hit a high school in western Kabul on Tuesday, killing numerous people, according to Afghan security and health officials,
Many residents in the area are Shia Hazaras, an ethnic and religious minority that has been targeted by Sunni terrorist groups, notably Islamic State.
“Three blasts have taken place in a high school, there are some casualties to our Shia people,” said Khalid Zadran, the spokesman for Kabul’s commander.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the incident, which came after a period of relative calm during the harsh winter months and following the withdrawal of foreign personnel last year.
Two blasts were reported in the west of Kabul this morning. The Ministry of Interior confirmed the blast near Abdul Raheem Shaheed High School, saying an investigation has started into the incident and details will be shared later: Afghanistan's TOLO News

Since taking power in August, the Taliban claim to have secured the country, but Western authorities and analysts warn there is still a risk of terrorism revival, and the Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for numerous significant attacks.
