New Delhi, Sept 18: As Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan passed resolutions endorsing Rahul Gandhi’s bid to assume the role of party leader, the outcry in favour of electing him president of the Congress once more got louder.

While the proposal to elect Rahul Gandhi as the party’s president was approved by the Congress committees in both states, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel remarked on Sunday that the Wayanad MP should “rethink” his choice.

“Chhattisgarh Congress Committee and Rajasthan Cong Committee have made this proposal. It has been done in two states but if this proposal comes from other states too, then Rahul ji should rethink this matter,” said Baghel on appointing Rahul Gandhi as party president.

Rahul Gandhi should once again serve as party president, according to a resolution that Chhattisgarh Congress unanimously approved.

A significant meeting was convened by the Congress Committee for Chhattisgarh Pradesh. An organisational election for the state unit is on the agenda of the meeting.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, party state coordinator PL Punia, and other state officials were present during the meeting.

Notably, the Congress Committee of Rajasthan also approved a resolution designating Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, as the party’s president. Congress Working Committee (CWC) had decided that the election for the Congress president post will be held on October 17. The counting of votes will be done on October 19.
