After three months of trial, Ranchi court acquits five accused of gang rape

Ranchi, Aug 31: The Court of additional judicial commissioner Asif Iqbal today acquitted five accused of gang rape due to lack of evidence.

Those who were acquitted included Sachin Pandey, Akash Kumar, Harsh Kumar, Mayank Kumar and Vishal Kumar. Defence lawyer in the case was Pritanshu Singh.

The case arose after a minor girl alleged that she was kidnapped and gang raped by five youths and an FIR was registered on her statement at the Ratu police station. The police investigating the case arrested the five.

The prosecution produced as many as eight witnesses but no one including the victim supported involvement of the five whom the police had arrested.

According to the FIR, the crime was allegedly committed outside a restaurant. The 15-yr-old girl was allelegedly forced to sit in their car and raped in turn outside the restaurant.
