Chabua (Assam): Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren addressed an election rally virtually in support of a candidate from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha during the Assam Assembly elections, asserting that the fight for the rights of tea garden workers and tribal communities will continue despite political challenges.

Allegations of Political Obstruction and Pressure

Soren accused the opposition of attempting to suppress democratic processes, alleging that his helicopter was denied flight permission citing the Prime Minister’s program. He claimed this was a deliberate attempt to hinder his campaign and silence opposition voices.

He further alleged that electoral malpractice and interference in opposition campaigning are being used as tools to influence the election outcome, but emphasized that his party would not be intimidated.

Focus on Workers’ Wages and Tribal Recognition

Highlighting the plight of tea garden workers, Soren said that these communities have long been neglected and deserve fair wages, proposing a minimum daily wage of ₹500 as a rightful entitlement rather than a favor. He also raised concerns over the lack of full recognition and rights for tribal communities in Assam, calling it a major failure of the government.

Criticising financial assistance promises made by rivals, he questioned their long-term impact and urged voters to make informed decisions without being misled. He concluded by expressing confidence that unity among people would compel governments to act in favor of workers and tribal communities.
