New Delhi, June 27: The Indian Air Force (IAF) reported that as of Monday, they had received 56,960 applications since the Agnipath recruitment programme for the armed forces was officially launched, amid widespread protest by the Opposition.

“56960! That’s the total number of applications received till date from future #Agniveers in response to the #Agnipath recruitment application process of agnipathvayu.cdac.in,” the IAF tweeted.

They also disclosed information about the application process, training and service details, cash package, and other advantages the programme offers. On July 5, registration will end.

Contrary to the violent protests by youngsters across the nation, the IAF’s recruiting through the Agnipath Yojana 2022 started on June 24 and garnered a resounding response in just three days. The military has officially said that anyone who has participated in violent demonstrations or burning will not be accepted into the military programme.

Notably on June 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Agnipath initiative to recruit young people into the Indian armed services, who will thereafter be known to as ‘Agniveers.’

According to the plan, after serving for four years, 75% of the teenagers will get voluntary retirement. Massive demonstrations and arson broke out in more than ten states as a result, with protesters torching cars, trains, and other public and private property.

The Center’s new ‘dictatorial’ recruitment programme, ‘Agnipath,’ was criticised by the Congress as it resumed its widespread demonstrations.
