Patna, June 17: Bihar deputy chief minister Renu Devi’s home in Bettiah district was attacked, as nationwide protests against the new defence recruiting process raged. Protsters also attacked Bihar BJP and West Champaran MP Sanjay Jaiswal’s home, wounding one police officer in the process. While confirming the news to ANI, Jaiswal stated that he was at his ancestral home at the time of the event. “There hasn’t been much damage to the property,” he said.
Protests against the government’s ‘Agnipath’ scheme surged across states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, with trains set ablaze, public and police vehicles damaged, and employees injured. On Tuesday, the controversial Agnipath scheme was launched, which will recruit jawans into the army, navy, and air force for four years before forcing them to retire without gratuity or pension benefits.
On Friday, the protests over the Centre’s ‘Agnipath’ programme expanded to the South, with police firing into the air to disperse demonstrators who went on the rampage at Secunderabad Railway Station. According to a senior South Central Railway officer, the agitators set fire to three passenger train coaches, although none of the passengers were injured.
