New Delhi, April 18: Air India has cancelled flight services to Hong Kong due to Hong Kong authorities’ Covid-19 limitations and low demand in the sector.

“Due to restrictions imposed by the Hong Kong authorities and limited demand on the sector, our flights to Hong Kong & back of 19th and 23rd April stand cancelled,” Air India tweeted.

Passengers from India can only enter Hong Kong provided they have a Covid-19 negative certificate from a test conducted 48 hours prior to departure, according to Hong Kong government regulations.

Notably, Hong Kong had announced a two-week suspension on inbound aircraft from eight nations, including India, earlier this year, as the world continues to see an increase in the Omicron strain of Covid-19. At a press conference, HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced the flying suspension. According to Xinhua, the prohibition will affect travellers from Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, and the United States, as well as transferring passengers. The decision to suspend flights was made, according to Lam, because to a fast shift in the local COVID-19 scenario.
