New Delhi: Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh has been appointed as the next Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF), following the retirement of Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari on September 30, the government announced on Saturday.
Staying true to the seniority principle, the government appointed Air Marshal Singh, a fighter pilot commissioned in December 1984, to lead the Indian Air Force. With over 5,000 flying hours on various aircraft and helicopters, his distinguished career has included key command and staff positions.
Experienced Leadership
Before being appointed the Vice-Chief of the IAF in February last year, Air Marshal Singh served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command at Prayagraj. His expertise spans across multiple roles, including as a qualified flying instructor and an experimental test pilot.
During his career, Air Marshal Singh has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base, showcasing his leadership in both operational and technical domains. As a test pilot, he played a crucial role in the MiG-29 fighter upgrade project in Moscow, as well as serving as Project Director (Flight Test) for India’s indigenous Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) program.
The Indian Air Force will soon be under the command of this highly experienced officer, who will continue to steer the force forward, enhancing India’s aerial defense capabilities.
