Ranchi: A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the High Court challenging the suspension of internet services in the state due to the JSSC CGL exam. The case was heard on Saturday by a bench comprising Justice Anand Sen and Justice Anudha Rawat Choudhary.

During the hearing, the court asked the state government about the policy behind internet shutdowns, questioning if similar measures would be taken during all exams. The court has directed the government to file an affidavit within four weeks providing a detailed response.

Representing the state, Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan presented the government’s stance, while Rajendra Krishna, Chairman of the State Bar Council, argued on behalf of the petitioner.

The petitioner argued that the shutdown of internet services was disrupting daily activities, causing inconvenience and negatively impacting work. In defense, the state government explained that only mobile internet services were suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent any malpractices during the exam, while broadband services remained operational.

The High Court’s response is now awaited, with the government expected to clarify its policy regarding future internet shutdowns during such events.
