Pune, Sept 10: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday conducted a road show and offered his respects to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Pune.
Large contingents of police teams were deployed for the roadshow organized by the Deputy Chief Minister.
Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis recently met with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde amid the ongoing demonstrations in the state over the demand for Maratha community reservation in employment and education.
Although the Maharashtra government apologized for using a lathi charge to attack protesters in Jalna, the opposition has been putting pressure on the administration and calling for Shinde’s resignation.
“Lathicharge by police was not right… I am apologising on behalf of the Government. CM has said that the action will be taken against those who are responsible for it,” said Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
A recent gathering of the Maharashtra Cabinet sub-committee on Maratha Reservation convened to deliberate on the Maratha reservation issue and the incident of lathi charge on demonstrators. Along with Chief Minister Shinde, both Deputy Chief Ministers Pawar and Fadnavis were present at the meeting.
