Ranchi: The AJSU Party launched a scathing attack on the Jharkhand government on Wednesday, accusing it of indulging in “political drama” over critical tribal issues like PESA implementation, Sarna religious code, and caste-based census. Addressing a press conference, AJSU leaders Praveen Prabhakar, Devsharan Bhagat, and youth leader Sanjay Mehta alleged that both Congress and JMM are exploiting these sensitive matters for political mileage while ignoring tribal welfare.
Congress rejected Sarna Code as impractical – Praveen Prabhakar
Slamming the alliance partners, Prabhakar said, “There’s a massive gap between what Congress and JMM say and what they actually do. The Congress government has already termed the Sarna religious code impractical, and yet now they are pretending to support it. In reality, they have no concern for tribal rights.”
He further recalled how Congress had opposed the Sarna code as early as 1961 and accused the party of continued betrayal of tribal aspirations.
No PESA implementation, so what basis for Sarna Code? – Sanjay Mehta
Youth leader Sanjay Mehta highlighted the government’s failure to act on the Jharkhand High Court’s directive to implement the PESA Act within two months. “Despite the court’s order, the government has done nothing. And yet, it is staging dharnas to demand the Sarna code—what moral ground do they even have?” he questioned. Mehta accused the government of playing a political game instead of fulfilling constitutional duties.
Politics over caste census is unfortunate – Devsharan Bhagat
AJSU leader Devsharan Bhagat criticized the politicization of the caste-based census, calling it unfortunate. “Caste census is not an illegitimate demand, but the way confusion is being spread around it is deeply troubling. The AJSU Party has always supported this initiative, but we oppose the misleading narratives being pushed today,” he stated.
