Patna, June 21: The MP-MLA court in Patna today sentenced RJD MLA Anant Singh to ten years in prison after he was found guilty in a case in which police confiscated an AK-47 gun and other weapons from his home.
Anant Singh, the RJD’s Bahubali MLA from Mokama, is currently detained in Patna’s Beur jail.
On August 16, 2019, a team of Patna police led by then-City SP Lipi Singh raided Anant Singh’s home in his native hamlet of Nadwa, which is part of the Barh police station. The raiding team allegedly seized an AK-47 rifle, two hand grenades, and 26 live AK-47 cartridges from his home, according to the police.
The prosecution called 13 witnesses at the case’s hearing, and their comments were recorded in the court. A total of 34 witnesses were called by the defence.
Anant Singh owns the house in Nadwa village, although he was not residing there. To look after the property, the residence was given to a caretaker. Behind the huge box, an AK-47 was placed in a hutment. The hand grenades were discovered in a nearby cottage.
The AK-47 was uniformly wrapped in a plastic bag, followed by layers of carbons, according to the authorities, to evade detection in metal detectors during shipment.
