Jamshedpur, Oct 1: An alert has been sounded in low-lying areas of Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas due to the rising water levels of both Subernarekha and Kharkai rivers, caused by incessant rains during the past 48 hours.
Apart from Chandil dam, as many as 10 spillway gates of Galudih barrage were opened last night.
Three radial gates of Dimna lake dam were also opened to release water. The water at the scenic Dimna lake has reached the danger mark.
Sources in the state Water resources department said that three radial gates of the Odisha-based Bankable dam were also opened last night.
Meanwhile, the incessant rain has cut off connectivity between Jamshedpur and Odisha.
Vehicles were made to cross through a newly built culvert which is used as a diversion.
Weather department officials said the intensity of rain would reduce from today.
However, isolated rains in pockets of northern parts of Jharkhand were expected to experience heavy rain during the next 24 hours.
The four months monsoon season between June to September ended with a meagre one per cent deficit.
But, the monsoon is yet to depart from the state. Weathermen said the monsoon will have a prolonged stay in Jharkhand this year as the withdrawal is yet to start from western Rajasthan.
