Kyiv, March 2: On the seventh day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that about 6,000 Russians had been killed in the first six days of the conflict.
Even as Russian airborne forces arrived in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, which has been under heavy fire for the previous two days, Zelenskiy said, according to Reuters.
The city mayor said in the last 24 hours at least 21 people were killed and 112 wounded in shelling. Earlier in the day, US President Joe Biden vowed to make Vladimir Putin “pay a price” for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in his first State of the Union address.
Russian forces were also believed to be encircling three cities: Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mariupol. Many military experts are concerned that Russia’s strategy may be altering. Moscow’s plan in Chechnya and Syria was to demolish cities and crush fighters’ determination with artillery and air strikes.
