New Delhi, Dec 7: The Winter Session of the Parliament is set to commence on Wednesday, a day when the result of Delhi civil body polls will be declared, followed by results of high-stakes Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections on December 8.
17 sessions of both Houses of Parliament will take place during the session, which runs through December 29. As the new building is still being built, the session will continue to be held in the old Parliament building.
Under the direction of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, the government held an all-party meeting on Tuesday inside the Parliament Library Building. The meeting was attended by Singh, Piyush Goyal, the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, Pralhad Joshi, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, and representatives from other political parties.

Congress voiced its opposition to the Winter Session continuing past Christmas this year, in contrast to previous years when it had ended before December 25. Before announcing the dates for the Winter Session of Parliament, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary claimed that the government should have taken holiday celebrations like Christmas into consideration.
